Travelife in Asia

Travelife has been working with tour operator members and other partners to raise awareness of sustainability in tourism and increase Travelife members in Asia. In 2013 Travelife supported tour operator Kuoni in delivering training events in both Sri Lanka and Bali, providing information on sustainability and efficient environmental hotel management to both hoteliers and staff running nature reserves.

Currently Travelife has a total of 73 hotel members in Asia, including properties in Indonesia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Many of these countries understand the valuable contribution tourism can make to local communities and the wider economy. They also know the importance of preserving the unique character, natural environment and local culture of their locations to attract tourists now and in the future.

Travelife is therefore proud to be working with hotels in these countries to help them become more sustainable and help protect the unique characteristics of their local area.

Industry data shows that tourist numbers in Asia are on the rise, with World Travel and Tourism Council projections suggesting tourist numbers in South and Southeast Asia are due to increase by about 65% in the next 10 years. This increases the need to find sustainable ways to secure the positive benefits of tourism and reduce its negative impacts.

Every year Travelife focuses on a few key destinations to promote sustainability and show how achieving a Travelife award can play a vital part in improving hotelsí operations and success. In 2014 Thailand is the target destination in Asia. If you are a Travelife hotel in Thailand who would like to share your ideas and experiences, learn from others, or help promote Travelife to other hoteliers please let us know. We would love to hear from you.
