New Training for hotels and auditors

As Travelife switches to the new criteria in 2014, a key focus is to provide our members with the best tools and training to help you achieve the new requirements.

As well as online support materials, Travelife is running a series of workshops and training events. The first training session on the new criteria took place in Croatia in February 2014. Twenty hotel quality assurance and environmental managers attended to learn about the new requirements for achieving a Travelife award.

The training session covered:

  • financial and environmental impacts of reduction in water, energy and waste consumption
  • activities in the community
  • human resources
  • choosing suppliers and
  • communicating sustainability to guests.

The overall feedback from the sessions was very positive. Ninety per cent of attendees stated that they received practical and innovative ways to save money and engage with their local community. One hundred percent of attendees stated that they now understand the Travelife requirements better and feel confident implementing them into their business.

Travelife will host further hotelier training sessions throughout 2014 in destinations such as: Crete, Egypt, Cyprus, Tenerife, Mallorca, Portugal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mexico and the Caribbean. We will send details of further training sessions as they are confirmed.

As well as hoteliers, all of our independent Travelife auditors are receiving training on the new criteria to prepare for the season ahead. So far weve trained 30 auditors in Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Kenya and Italy, with many more destinations to follow.

Our auditors are some of the top industry professionals with backgrounds in sustainability, health & safety, and auditing to name a few. All the auditors undergo our comprehensive three-day training session and must pass an examination before becoming an official Travelife trained auditor. So the whole Travelife community around the world is gearing up to start the new Travelife sustainability journey together.
