Online travel agents offer Travelife hotels extra promotion

Travelife has entered into partnership with two online travel agents (OTAs) – Bookdifferent and Expedia. This means that Travelife certified hotels will get greater levels of promotion in their Travelife membership.

The Bookdifferent site, which promotes sustainable accommodation around the world, is a Dutch-based, not-for-profit booking site powered by online giant Booking.com. It inspires holiday-makers by letting them know: ‘You can make the world a bit better by booking a hotel’ through them.

Online booking site Expedia is also working with Travelife to feature certified hotels in its Green Hotels Programme.

With consumers increasingly booking holidays online and through a variety of travel providers, the move to work more closely with OTAs helps Travelife hotels capture more of the holiday market, in addition to the core business of tour operators and travel agents.

These two partnerships bring together the credibility of Travelife’s independently audited hotels with the promotional reach of Booking.com and Expedia– a win-win for the OTAs and Travelife’s hotel members. Travelife’s Senior Business Manager Sören Stöber said: “The number of hotels around the world that are certified as more sustainable against internationally recognised standards is still relatively small. However with Travelife’s 700 certified hotels we are able to provide a significant choice to consumers and value to the OTAs.”

TUI Travel Sustainable Development Director, Jane Ashton, said: “Travelife underwent a rigorous revision over the past 18 months, and now fully reflects the internationally recognised criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). With this exciting new OTA partnership, Travelife will go from strength to strength in terms of market recognition and its impact in driving sustainability performance across tourism’s supply chain.
