Take part in Make Holidays Greener 2015

This year we’re asking all our hotels to take part in the Make Holidays Greener campaign, by organising a local event to promote sustainability.

Last year Travelife and the Travel Foundation (a UK charity promoting responsible tourism), promoted beach clean-up events around the world and Travelife properties were some of the most active. You can read our stories about last year’s campaign for inspiration, including how the Travelife team got involved and the Sunrise Royal Makadi Hotel’s beach clean.

Can you beat the Sunrise Royal Makadi Hotel which involved 23 staff, 32 customers and collected 19kg of waste for recycling last year?

This year, Travelife and the Travel Foundation are partnering up again to organise the ‘Big Beach Clean 2015’ and invite all our members, tour operators and destination partners to join the Make Holidays Greener campaign. Iolidays Greener campf you don’t have a beach nearby, you can still get involved by cleaning up your local park, children’s playground, mountain or riverside.

Be inspired by the award-winning Inspira Santa Marta hotel and their local park clean-up

The aim of the Make Holidays Greener campaign is to help raise tourists’ awareness of the importance of protecting the local environment and behaving responsibly while on holiday, as well as to promote what we as the travel industry are already doing to Make Holidays Greener.

Taking part in the campaign is easy: just register online, plan an event and let us know what you are doing and when. You will see that the Make Holidays Greener website has an online toolkit to help accommodations taking part, including a step-by-step guide to organising a beach clean.  And don’t forget to tell us and others about what you are doing – put out a press release, tell your customers about it on your website, put posters up to get your neighbours or local businesses involved, then share your stories, photos, videos and statistics with us and we’ll share them through the campaign newsletter, website, social media and press partners.

If you let us know your plans via info@travelife.org we can help promote what you are doing too.
